Opie’s distinctive formal language is instantly recognisable and reflects his artistic preoccupation with the idea of representation and the means by which images are perceived and understood. As my practice progressed, this became a more important factor, once I had found a character I really liked aesthetically, I wanted to experiment with space and colour and how I would display my subject matter.
