Due to a potential religious context in my work by working with myths, I decided to focus some of my work around the Norse Gods. While researching them, I found a small illustration of Odin, the allfather, in a book. This inspired me to create small illustrations/tattoo designs of the gods in my sketchbook before then abstracting them at a larger scale. I used the small drawing I found as a rough reference to create a black and white painting of Odin before giving him more detail in a tattoo design. This is so I could get an idea of the outline first. For the smaller designs, I’m attempting to work in a different style to what I usually do. With the subject matter being Norse Gods, I’m trying to work in a similar style the Vikings did with their carvings but also keeping it my own work by using the same shading techniques as my designs.I plan to design several of the Norse Gods before then scaling them up and abstracting them, continuing with the finger painting I have been using.
